Co-sponsor of LRB-2383, enactment of legislation for setting salaries of elected officials |
Co-sponsorship of LRB-2383, relating to requiring the enactment of legislation for setting the salaries of the governor, the lieutenant governor, the secretary of state, the state treasurer, the attorney general, the superintendent of public instruction, state senators and representatives to the assembly, supreme court justices, court appeals judges, and circuit court justices.
Under LRB-2383, any proposal to adjust the salaries of the above elected officials, upon approval by JCOER, must be submitted to and enacted by the Legislature to take effect.
DEADLINE: May 28, 2009
Periodically the issue of legislator and other elected official pay increases has become an issue of public interest. Part of the reason is that currently the full Legislature does not act directly on changes in the level of pay because that power is vested in the Joint Committee on Employment Relations (JCOER). This proposal would restore long overdue accountability to that process by requiring a vote by the full Legislature to set salaries. |
